POSITION: TRUCK ASSISTANT
DEPARTMENT: OPERATIONS
REPORTING TO: SENIOR LOGISTICS COORDINATOR
Job Brief
The Truck Assistant supports the Truck Driver in safely and efficiently transporting recyclable materials across assigned routes. This role plays avital part in ensuring timely pickups and deliveries, accurate documentation, and compliance with safety procedures, while also supporting the loading and unloading of materials.
Working Conditions
· Extensive travel; early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
· Exposure to outdoor elements, noise, and physically demanding tasks (handling up to 50kgs).
· Must adhere to RPJ safety protocols and wear issued PPE at all times.
Key Responsibilities
1. Support Vehicle Operations
· Assist the Truck Driver in navigating assigned routes and ensure timely completion of collections and deliveries.
· Help maneuver the vehicle into loading/unloading positions.
2. Material Handling
· Load and unload loose bottles, bales, or other materials at depots, hubs, and collection sites.
· Ensure proper stacking and securing of materials in the truck.
3. Safety Compliance
· Adhere to safety standards when handling materials and working around forklifts or other machinery.
· Use protective gear and assist with vehicle inspections and safety checks.
4. Documentation Support
· Assist in collecting, checking, and submitting delivery and collection instructions and documents.
· Help maintain accurate records of activities, including weight slips and delivery confirmations.
5. Route Coordination
· Communicate with the Truck Driver and Logistics Coordinator to confirm stop locations and schedules.
· Inform the coordinator of delays or route challenges promptly.
6. Customer Interaction
· Engage professionally with depot staff, community agents, and external partners during pickups or drop-offs.
· Provide support in verifying quantities and condition of materials collected or delivered.
Key Activities
· Assist the Truck Driver in safely navigating routes and maintaining trip schedules.
· Load and unload recyclable materials such as bales and loose bottles at various locations.
· Inspect materials for proper packaging and secure them safely in the vehicle.
· Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all safety procedures during loading/unloading.
· Collect, verify, and help submit delivery and pickup documentation.
· Communicate any route changes, delays, or concerns to the Logistics Coordinator.
· Help with basic vehicle checks (e.g., tire condition, load balance) at the start and end of each trip.
· Support the Truck Driver in planning the most efficient routes for delivery or collection.
· Engage politely and professionally with depot staff and other stakeholders.
· Ensure all tools and equipment used during operations are returned and stored appropriately.
